How to Make Money Selling Books on KDP: My Journey and Lessons Learned
When I first heard about self-publishing on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), I thought it sounded too good to be true. The idea of publishing a book without needing a traditional publisher or hefty upfront costs seemed like a dream. But as I soon learned, it wasn’t just a dream — it was a viable way to share my work with the world and earn money doing it.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you could make money selling books on KDP, let me take you through my journey, the ups and downs, and everything I learned along the way.
Discovering KDP
I stumbled across KDP while searching for ways to monetize my writing. Like many others, I’d always dreamed of writing a book, but I assumed it was something only professional authors could do. The traditional publishing process seemed daunting: finding an agent, pitching my manuscript, and facing countless rejections.
KDP, on the other hand, offered a way around all that. It allowed anyone to publish their work, retain control over their content, and earn up to 70% royalties. It was a revelation. I decided to give it a shot.
